Should you spy on your cheating husband or wife? You believe you see signs of a cheating spouse. The need to know whether your spouse is cheating and EXACTLY what kind of cheating is taking place is often strong. There are a number of reasons why the drive to spy is powerful. Here are seven:

1. Trust is a big reason, not of your partner, but yourself. Probably for some time you have sensed something is different or questioned the change of behavior in your partner. Perhaps you confronted your cheating husband or cheating wife and it was met with denial. This created a huge dilemma for you because a part of you was screaming, Hey, this doesn't fit! I don't believe it! To deny this part of you, which KNOWS the truth, creates a tremendous internal turmoil. If the truth as you suspect it is confirmed, you can take a deep breath and at least know that you can trust yourself. You are NOT CRAZY! Spying is a way to confirm your suspicions and trust more fully your gut feelings.

2. Spying on cheating husbands or cheating wives often helps the person feel connected to the partner who seems to be steadily moving away. It is a way of maintaining contact and having some sort of connection to this stranger who once was well known. Isn't it like the game of hide-and-seek we used to play as children? Sometimes there, sometimes gone. At least it is a game, and a game is at least some contact, some involvement. You miss the connection and try to find someway to maintain the ties.

3. Spying on a cheating spouse may be an honest attempt to bring resolution to the relationship. You want to know the truth. You sense something does not fit. You suspect there is a breach of something. You want to know what you are up against. You are not willing to stand pat and wait. You are a person of action. You want some sort of movement. You want to get on with the relationship. You want to get on with your life. You know that it is difficult maintaining your sanity when there might be this huge elephant that no one is talking about. You want to know the truth, face the truth, deal with the truth and be free.

4. Cheating husbands or cheating wives often, unfortunately, lead to the demise of marital relationships. If you strongly suspect this to be true for your situation you will want to protect yourself legally. If there is betrayal, lying and deception regarding a third party, other forms of deception may exist financially or in other areas of the relationship. Having "evidence" does have some impact in some court systems. Whether you need to protect yourself legally depends on the kind of affair facing you and the character of your spouse. Please read through my "7 Reasons For an Affair" to determine the situation that faces you. If your spouse is someone who can't say no, doesn't want to say no or is acting out rage, please make sure to take protective steps.

5. You may want to protect yourself medically if you suspect you have a cheating husband or wife. You might be concerned about sexually transmitted diseases. Your health may be at stake. And, of course, you need to know. Shame, guilt or self-absorption may be so powerful in your partner that it gets in the way of responsibly informing you of the medical dangers when another partner is sexually brought into your relationship.

6. Seeing signs of a cheating spouse often mean secrets. Secrets are work! There is not much written about the impact of a secret in a relationship, but believe me, in over two decades of working with strained relationships day in and day out, keeping a secret has a powerful impact. It is the proverbial elephant sitting in the room that no one dare talk about. People take extraordinary measures to tip toe around it, but it IS there. Emotionally, you can't miss it. Secrets are a drain. If the secret persists, its impact is felt in subtle but insidious ways. People become physically ill, sometimes seriously so. People become depressed. People start doing crazy things. Children start acting out, stop achieving, become listless or exhibit a host of other symptoms. Children, or the next generation, often carry the emotional load. You want to spy because you don't want to live with a secret. You want to discover the truth. You want to feel the freeing power of the exposed secret and the opportunity it offers for healing, resolution, a rich relationship and a productive life.

7. Some of us like drama. Soap opera scenarios and adrenaline based lives are a hallmark of our society. We get juiced or pumped up entering into emotional relational triangles that offer intrigue. Without adrenaline, life seems boring or mundane. Perhaps an unspoken reason for an affair may be to fan the fire? Or, you may spy on your cheating spouse to keep the sense of being alive a part of your life.

• Monogamy is still expected, but more than half are willing to forgive an infidelity

Men who believe in ‘love at first sight’ and ‘instant chemistry' are three times more prone to infidelity in their next relationship than men who take at least two weeks to fall in love, according to a new report by PARSHIP – Europe’s largest scientifically-based online dating service.

In a survey of 5,000 single men and women currently looking for a serious relationship, one in five people admitted to infidelity in a previous relationship, even though nine out of ten singles expect sexual fidelity from their next relationship. Men with a tendency to stray are also much more prone to multiple affairs than women, clocking up an average of 3.4 infidelities compared to women’s average of 1.2 affairs.

ADDICTED TO ROMANCE: men who believe in love at first sight are three times more likely to cheat. For the majority of single people – 75% of men and 80% of women – it takes at least five dates over several weeks to decide if they want to start a relationship. The remaining 25% of men and 20% women believe in the chemistry of instant attraction; these people – particularly men – are also three times more likely to be unfaithful: 42% of men who believe in love at first sight had been unfaithful in a previous relationship, compared to just 14% of men who preferred to wait.

Furthermore, men who value regular sex are more than twice as likely to cheat: 34% of them have strayed in a relationship, compared to just 13% of the men who put little priority on regular sex.

Dr Nafsika Thalassis, PARSHIP’s singles coach: commented:

“This survey indicates that there is a close relationship between infidelity and impulsiveness. Men who consider themselves ’in love' within minutes of meeting someone are likely to fall in love rather frequently -- even when they are already in a relationship. It is also likely that such men interpret attraction and love as more or less the same thing. This means that, when they meet an attractive stranger, they are prone to telling themselves: 'I have fallen in love … I haven't felt that way about my partner in years … I have to try this out', rather than the more cautious: 'I find this person exceptionally attractive, but I love my partner, therefore I won’t pursue things'. Of course, after a while, the new relationship may lose its lustre and these men may rediscover their feelings for their wife … until the next time."

MULTIPLE INFIDELITIES: men who cheat once more likely to cheat twice. It appears that men are twice as likely as women to commit multiple infidelities whilst in a relationship. Of the 22% of men who admitted to infidelity, 67% confessed to two or more affairs, while 14% had been unfaithful on at least ten different occasions. Of the 20% of women who admitted to a previous indiscretion in a relationship, the majority (60%) said they had been unfaithful just once, with 22% admitting to twice and 16% to three times or more. Just 5% admitted to being unfaithful on at least ten separate occasions.

GENERATION Y VS. THE BABY BOOMERS: people in their 20s more monogamous than their parents. It seems that baby boomers (people now aged 50+) are much more likely to have been unfaithful in a previous relationship than Generation Y, the under 30s. On average, one in five (27%) of men and women over 50 have committed at least one infidelity in a previous relationship, whereas just 16% of twentysomethings admitted to being unfaithful -- even though they’ve already stacked up a higher number of serious relationships than their seniors: an average of 2.74 by their 30th birthday, compared to the over-50s’ lower average of 2.27 relationships over their much longer adulthood.

MONOGAMY IN A NEW RELATIONSHIP IS STILL EXPECTED: While over half of men (56%) and 71% of women say absolute sexual fidelity is a must, one in five people (an equal number of men and women) believe it’s more important to make an effort to be faithful. However, 12% of men believe that, as long as you love someone, physical fidelity isn’t that important; try telling that to the girls – just 5% of women are of a similar opinion. 6% of the people polled said that flings should be expected in long-term relationships and that demanding absolute fidelity is a possessive way of thinking.

DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH OF AN INFIDELITY: Although many people claim their relationship would not survive an affair, in reality people are more willing to try and resolve relationship problems rather than simply walk away. While one third of people say an affair can never be forgiven or overcome, regardless of the situation, 22% of men and just 6% of women said they might be able to forgive a one-off fling with no deeper feelings involved. Nearly half (45%) of men and women thought that, if, following a long separation, both people realised they still really wanted to be together, and if they were able to forgive and forget, then it might work.

This article is meant to provide advice on how to select a qualified private investigator and how to ensure that they are reliable. The most common misconception is that private detectives can usually be found hiding in bushes or hanging out in nightclubs and all-night diners. Modern-day investigators don’t reflect their Hollywood characters.

In order to remain inconspicuous, private detectives always dress accordingly and use props that enable them to blend in with their surroundings. A good detective will have the ability to quickly adapt to a specific environment, or engage an associate who may be better suited for the task.

An experienced private detective can provide a broad array of services. Many detective agencies in today’s society specialize in providing computer-based research such as locating debtors (skip-tracing). They also may specialize in conducting pre-employment and pre-marital checks, identifying hidden or moved assets (think late on the payments for the jet ski), and criminal background checks. Private investigators are routinely engaged in domestic cases. They may also work undercover (such as in a corporate environment) or provide assistance in criminal defense. Although an imaginative investigator can offer services unknown and unlearned to the average American, new technologies such as GPS allow anyone to conduct surveillance to determine the whereabouts of any individual at any moment in time.

Most private investigators are experienced in the art of surveillance. With today’s technology it is expected that investigators record video footage of their targets. Parents wanting their teens observed on prom night and other social occasions; suspected acts of infidelity; and investigations of an alleged unfit parent during a custody battle are but a few examples where surveillance can be required. Private investigators regularly conduct surveillance on insurance claimants to determine the legitimacy of an injury or to ensure that the applicant is not working while drawing benefits. Quality video or photo evidence can make or break legal work further down the process, making it worthwhile to everyone involved. Depending on the type of practice, most trial attorneys will ultimately need an investigator to conduct some sort of surveillance on an opposing party.

To begin your search, depending on your jurisdiction, start by checking on credentials. Private detectives are trained, licensed, educated, and regulated in many different ways depending on the state. Surprisingly, states still exist that do not require an investigator to obtain a license or work under regulations. If your state has a licensing agency, contact them for research in order to ensure that the individual (or company) is certified and has no complaints with that department. By asking a few simple questions, you may be able to avoid possible legal or ethical issues later.

Once you have narrowed down your list of possibilities, contact all the necessary state, county, or city agencies to inquire (or verify) that an individual or company has an up-to-date business license. Don’t forget to check under both the company and the individual’s names since a business license could be applied for and modified rather easily. A business license will tell you when the company was formed, it’s structure (a corporation or a partnership), and who its officers are. Cross-reference any names listed with the state’s listing of licensed investigators to create a list of all individuals who are licensed by that company. Even better, if the company is incorporated, contact your secretary of state’s office to inquire as to its status there.

When I think of a private detective or investigator, what usually comes to mind is Columbo, or a disheveled little man wearing a wrinkled, khaki trench coat, with worn shoes, and in desperate need of a haircut. This stereotypical description could not be further from the truth, and I would like to share some factual information regarding the licenser of, services provided, and average costs of retaining today's private investigator (PI).

You might be wondering why anyone would feel compelled to need to hire a "private eye?" There are hundreds of reasons, and the top types of cases in the Madison, Wisconsin area are adultery and infidelity(marital), child support, visitation, and custody, unfaithful or cheating mate(non-marital), stalking or harassment, birth parent location, adopted child location, domestic, criminal, and eavesdropping detection investigations. Overall, you can pretty much hire a private detective to research any concern that you may have, as long as it’s legal.

For many, especially in our failing economy, hiring a detective is just not a feasible option. Monthly financial obligations keep the majority of Americans living paycheck to paycheck. Mortgage, utility, cell phone, credit card, child care and/or support, and grocery bills leave most of us scrambling just to make ends meet. However, if you have the means, and have personal issues that you are unable to resolve on your own, help is available. The rate for retaining a PI varies, and really depends on what type of service(s) you require, and which agency you choose. The typical PI rate ranges from $60.00 to $250.00 per hour, along with an additional mileage fee of 20 to 75 cents per mile. There are some agencies that offer all inclusive rate plans for certain types of cases. For example, the agency may offer 2 eight hour investigative days for an all inclusive fee of $1200.00. This includes mileage and travel time, and ensures a set fee. If you are planning on hiring a PI, Make sure to ask your agency if they offer such a plan.

OK. You have decided to hire a private detective because you suspect that your spouse is having an extra-marital affair. Be sure to do your homework before choosing a reputable PI. Be careful not to ask neighbors, co-workers, or even friends to recommend someone, as they could accidentally tip off your spouse regarding your plans. The best way is to set-up some interviews with several agencies, ask questions, and follow these tips to ensure the best outcome.

Make sure that the PI is licensed and bonded

Most states require that anyone employed in the practice of investigation be licensed, and being bonded in usually a requirement to get a PI license. Ask to see a copy of the license, and if they are unable to produce it, or say that they are not required to have one, keep looking. Steer clear of Internet companies as well. These are completely unregulated, and most of these online "investigators" do nothing more than perform background checks from public information databases.

Make sure that the PI is experienced

Many PIs have military, law enforcement, intelligence, or specialized experience (in finances, security, etc.). When you interview the candidate, ask questions about their qualifications, and what types of cases they have experience with. Bottom line: the PI should be an experienced surveillance expert.

Make sure the PI is insured

When you hire a PI, they are working for you. If they caused damage to property, or were injured while working on your case, they need to have adequate insurance to cover all losses.

Always get a signed contract

Be sure that your PI provides you with a written contract, specifying your reason for hiring the PI, and what services you will receive. If the PI refuses to work under contract, keep looking.

OK. You hired your PI, and he or she confirms that your spouse is having that extra-marital affair. You confront your significant other, and they confess. You both attempt marriage counseling (unsuccessfully), and decide to go your separate ways. A year later, you meet the love of your life, and life is grand. Was hiring a PI worth the money? In your case, absolutely. Is this the case for everyone? Probably not. It is a personal and subjective question, and the answer will revolve around the outcome of each person's experience (Advanced Surveillance Group, Inc., 2010).

"When do you know it is time to pack your bags, fill the moving truck and

The decision to leave is never clearer than when a half-hearted confession is made. "When South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford uttered the description of the other woman as "soul mate" it was a clear message of intent. It would appear he had no plans to rebuild his marriage" says Mitchell.

"Confessions must be all or nothing. When the message contains ambiguity, it's time to plan an exit strategy." adds Mitchell. "This ugly state of affairs backs victims into a corner."

Just finished reading this excellent commentary on adultery by Ellen Ratner. Here is what she wrote today:

After watching the John Edwards saga, maybe we should change our thinking about the damage caused by affairs.

The radio and television airwaves have been filled for the past two weeks with talk about the legal separation of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife and Elizabeth. But that’s not all, there has been lots of talk about salacious revelations about the former candidate by Edwards’ ex-staff member and confidant, Andrew Young. He’s written a new book called “The Politician” that will officially released this week.

Political junkies have been as obsessed with the story of Edwards and his family as younger people are obsessed with the trials and tribulations of Brangelina. People are gobsmacked by the litany of lies from Edwards about fathering a child outside his marriage and his brazen affair with his campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter.

As I watched the “20/20” interview with Andrew Young in its entirety last Friday, I couldn’t help but wonder about the Edwards’s two younger children who are around ages 10 and 12. It must be horrifying to find out that your father is having an affair with a woman and you now have a half-sibling. It must not be easy to show up at school with your family’s intimate secrets everywhere.

Unfortunately, although the news is not usually broadcast on radio and television, many children have to cope with the knowledge that their parents are divorcing because of an extra-martial affair. It wrecks families and in extreme cases can even cause family violence leading to murder.
Teen pregnancy has been considered such a public health problem that President Bush made abstinence education a government-funded priority, spending $160 million dollars in his budget for abstinence only education.

The federal government has allocated additional millions to help professionals identify child abuse.

There are also countless programs for elementary school children identifying “safe touch.” Abuse in families is a top consideration on the public health agenda.

Cheating on your spouse is as old as written history but the long-term consequences on the family are just beginning to be understood. If we already have government programs to prevent teen pregnancy, to teach children about “safe touch,” and we offer mandated court intervention during certain divorce proceedings then why not think of extra-marital affairs as a public health problem?

Let’s add this to our quiver to minimize family dysfunction and the trauma it causes to children. Let’s give it attention like we have to other forms of emotional and physical abuse. Maybe then we will be glued to the television watching something more fun and productive than seeing family dysfunction unfold before our eyes.

I totally agree that family dysfunction and trauma are at the root of affairs.

Recently a mother, who is cheating on her husband, has threatened her youngest daughter not to tell him. She said "I will not buy you anything more if you tell your father." Maybe that threat was a mistake because within a week this cheating wife found herself in the ICU suffering from a major illness. But did she learn anything? No. When her spouse leaves the hospital, and in front of daughter, she calls her lover by cell phone. Maybe it will "to death doeth us part."

MANILA, Philippines — The House committee on the revision of laws has recommended the passage of a bill that seeks to replace the crimes of adultery (for women) and concubinage (for men) with the crime of marital infidelity that would apply equally to both sexes.

The bill would also prohibit a spouse from filing a criminal complaint for infidelity if the complainant had likewise been unfaithful.

Under present law, adultery is not committed by the husband. The Revised Penal Code states that “adultery is committed by any married woman who shall have sexual intercourse with a man not her husband.” She faces imprisonment of 2 to 4 years.

On the other hand, the Revised Penal Code defines concubinage as “any husband who shall keep a mistress in the conjugal dwelling, or shall have sexual intercourse, under scandalous circumstances, with a woman who is not his wife, or shall cohabit with her in any other place...” He faces imprisonment of 6 months to 6 years.

When it comes to marital infidelity, the existing law seems biased against the woman. If the wife commits one act of adultery, she and her lover can be criminally charged.

However, the husband who commits numerous acts of marital infidelity cannot be sued by his wife for adultery. The philandering husband must be sued for concubinage.

Concubinage is also harder to prove, according to the committee, chaired by Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao.

In the proposed bill, marital infidelity is committed by any married person who has sexual intercourse with anyone other than his or her spouse. Any person who has sexual intercourse with a married person will also be held liable.

“The present law governing the infidelity of a married person is one of the laws that underlines the inequality of the sexes before the law... To equalize the rights of men and women before the law, this bill seeks to punish the infidelity of a married person under the same elements by combining the crime of adultery and concubinage into a single crime applicable similarly to both men and women,” the bill states.

The proposed legislation, a consolidation of similar bills filed by Representatives Liza Maza, Luzviminda Ilagan, Joel Villanueva, Cinchona Cruz-Gonzales and Narciso Santiago III, prescribes a punishment of 6 months to 4 years imprisonment.

It also proposes that the offended party will not be able to file criminal cases if he or she likewise committed marital infidelity, or if he or she abandoned the unfaithful spouse without just cause for more than one year, or if he or she does not include both guilty parties in the complaint.

The bill also proposes that Muslims and indigenous people be held liable for marital infidelity regardless of their faith and traditions.

Government officials and personnel who would be found guilty of marital infidelity will be slapped with a harsher penalty of 6 to 8 years imprisonment.

The Ugly Truth about divorce

Ok. Here's an ugly truth: Not every infidelity story ends happily ever after for the marriage.

Some marriages are beyond repair.

Some who cheat and betray never turn from their path of obsession with their own personal needs or covert inadequacies and never become able to enter intimately into a relationship of investment.

Sad, but true.

Let me be a little more specific.

Some who engage in an "I Don't Want to Say No" affair never acknowledge their narcissism.

Some who engage in the "I Can't Say No" affair never confront their compulsions and addictions and their lives spiral toward self-delusion and destruction.

Some who engage in "I Fell Out of Love... and just love being in love" flit from one romantic high to another. (However, this is the exception rather than the rule. These people often move beyond their attempts at adolescent reconstruction and enter into healthy relationships.)

Some who engage in "I Want to Get Back at Him/Her" never purge their lives of their rage.

With school starting back up this fall, students prepared mentally for the challenge. While some focus on new clothes and outward appearances, many look to rekindle relationships. Others begin the grueling practices hoping to gain a spot on the first string. Student’s minds are filled with anticipation, anxiety, expectation, identity and a host of other emotions. It’s a wonderful time of year. Everyone starts with a new slate, a fresh chance to make the grade and excel. The playing field is new each year.

Likewise each day, private investigators field questions from callers whose needs vary. It’s amazing the types of questions posed them. For example, this morning a female asked me for a copy of a cell phone billing statement, “just one month” she said. I asked her if she was on the account, suspecting she was a victim of infidelity, and “no” she replied. Well then, I told her, that would be a felony to pursue this information and she should be aware of it. That call ended just as quickly as it came in.

Others want to know if a “loved one” or “birthparent” can be found and retain the assistance of a private investigator. To which the answer normally depends. While another client wants help with a neighbor who troubles them. He’s a parolee that spends too much time watching them.

Lawyers engage the services of private investigators to prepare a defense and collect evidence to protect their client’s interest. These cases take shape depending upon the nature and scope of action. Those charged criminally must defend themselves and therefore a private investigator is tasked to unearth witnesses, records, documents, evidence that might change the course of a court battle.

Each assignment has an elements including risk, uncertainly and challenge.

For instance, a private investigator conducting surveillance gets confronted by a subject. This overt confrontation will be the subject of a civil case where the behavior will show a propensity toward conflict and aggressive tendency. This twist in the investigation brought about an unexpected consequence - favorable to one side and not the other.

Most people think private investigator sneak around following seedy people.
Unless someone like me reveals the real world and more reliable picture, this myth might continue on without merit.

Insurance companies routinely need field investigators when a claim is submitted. And in a tight financial market, disproving a claim with video evidence that controverts allegations, or facts to help deny a claim is very smart business. Too often, claims are exaggerated for monetary reasons which have been in my experience the case for many decades. Workers compensation claims that offer a “total disability” equates to a life time of paying on that one claim. Most insurance clients have no issue with justifiable claims that deserve to be paid out. It’s those individuals who seek to enjoy an “early retirement” or "free ride" that drives premiums upward.

It is not unusual to be asked to perform a service that is “outside” the realm of normal assignments. People suspect things and are willing to pay for professional help from a private investigator. While some seek an opinion, insights or strategies to overcome a situation, while others want a letter delivered to an “old flame”. Political parties hire private investigators to conduct backgrounds on their opponents.

And of course, assignments can vary by location.

Surfing the web for information is commonplace for many people. Investigators have left their cars and find themselves in front of PC or Mac now-a-days. We are in the "information age." Gone are the yellow and white page directories that used to fill our back office shelves for decades. Those were donated to the local genealogy departments of the county library.

The research trend is built on sources that many of which can be found without leaving the comfort of our homes or offices. Along with this new age are some who found a career "mining" free information, shy of clinical studies or professional surveys to valid findings. The internet has provided a brand of "experts" who largely surface as "self-proclaimed." Hence; opinions, articles and like merely to pay the bills. But does the public at large realize that the information is self-serving. That's my point for writing about it.

Having work as a professional investigator over four decades affords me the opportunity to judge or assess their work. So, my goal is to clarify what appears real or what surfaces as merely self serving sources. I've been taught we should always "CONSIDER THE SOURCE."

We are also in the age of "infidelity" and "cyber crimes." So buyers beware! Alleged “experts” who surf the internet for “free” and “invalidated” information appear to me (in my opinion) as writers with no real experience seeking free “PR”. This disturbs me, especially when it comes to something as serious as a troubled relationship. Are they exploiting? I hope not.

4 women accused of using Krazy Glue to get even with cheating spouse

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — A married man who planned to rendezvous with one of his handful of lovers at a Wisconsin motel instead found himself bound, blindfolded and assaulted by a group of women out for revenge, according to court documents.

Four women, including his wife, eventually showed up to humiliate the man, who ended up with his penis glued to his stomach to punish him for a lover's quadrangle gone bad, according to the documents filed in Calumet County.

Now it's the women who face punishment, perhaps six years in prison, and at least one said Monday she's embarrassed now.

"I am disturbed. I am upset. I am having a hard time handling life, an emotional wreck," Wendy Sewell, 43, of Kaukauna, said in a telephone interview from her home. "I am ashamed."
Sewell, Therese Ziemann, 48, of Menasha, Michelle Belliveau, 43, of Neenah, and the man's wife are charged with being party to false imprisonment, a felony. Ziemann also is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault.

The women are free on $200 cash bail each. Investigators say all the women but Belliveau were romantically involved with the man.

The Associated Press is not naming the man's wife to protect his identity as an alleged victim of sexual assault.

Online court records didn't list defense attorneys for any of the women Monday.

The women's plot for revenge unfolded last Thursday at the Lakeview Motel about 30 miles (39 kilometers) southwest of Green Bay in the tiny village of Stockbridge near the scenic shores of Lake Winnebago.

Criminal complaints filed Friday allege the man agreed to be bound with "sheer sheets" and blindfolded with a pillowcase for a "rub down" by Ziemann. She instead cut off his underwear with a scissors and summoned the others to the room.

Ziemann struck the man in the face, and used Krazy Glue to attach his penis to his stomach when the other women arrived, according to the complaint. The man told investigators he also was threatened with a gun.

Ziemann told investigators she didn't have a gun but may have told the victim, "Do you know how much I want to shoot you?"

He started screaming and the women rushed off fearful that he could get loose and hurt them but allegedly took his wallet, vehicle and cell phone.

Ziemann told investigators she met the man online through Craigslist, fell in love and paid for a room at the motel for the past two months. She said she gave him about $3,000. Then last Wednesday, she learned from the man's wife that he was married, had other girlfriends and was "using them for money." She expected the money to be repaid, according to the documents.
During Thursday's confrontation with the man, Ziemann told investigators that Sewell asked him, "Which one do you love more?" and the man's wife made a derisive remark about him being scared.

The man got free from the bed by chewing through one of his bindings, went outside and borrowed a telephone from the motel owner to call police.

Ziemann and Belliveau are sisters and Belliveau didn't do anything wrong, Sewell said Monday.
"She was just there for moral support. She wasn't even dating the guy. She stood at the door the whole time and didn't participate or nothing."

What situations work well?

Residential or office spaces tend to provide both power (electricity) and opportunity to discover evidence. Covert camera sizes continue to shrink. These systems can also be used from vehicles for surveillance or in cabins, campers, apartments and other venues.

What equipment do I need?

Taking a bite out of serial killers like Patrick Tracy Burris

Who really stopped this madness man? Patrick Tracy Burris, 41, might now wish he was a dog lover. In most criminal cases, 99 % of the time, a witness, neighbor, employee, or other sources provide a break in the case. They are solved by someone's "eyes and ears". Well this notorious thug was nabbed by the alert canine that woke Mike Valentine of Dallas, NC, Gaston County.

That's incredible!

With countless number of investigators from all over South Carolina, state, federal and local authorities the manhunt was very intense. Their efforts put the pressure on Burris to avoid Gaffney, SC and stopped him from killing once more. He took five lives in nine days, a terrible trajedy for Gaffney, SC, a sleepy little town.

As I profiled this serial killer the night before he died on Fox News Geraldo show, he operated in his “comfort zone”. Relentlessly working around the clock for more than a week, law enforcement from many agencies kept this man-hunt and ultimately avoiding a sixth killing.

While Patrick Tracy Burris was fearlessly “dogged” by law enforcement his life ended when a dog heard him. All the while cops diligently tracked down every reported tip and possible lead to nab this serial killer. They pressed ahead hoping for a major break.

And ironically it came on the ninth day.

In the wee hours of July 6, 2009, when Burris work up Mike Valentine’s dog, the neighbor living across the street from where his spree ended. The irony of this crime is Burris will not be credited for a clever crime spree that he evaded capture for years. His serial killing abruptly ended when a dog caught wind of him. The fact that his plan lacked living accommodations to evade police showed how living a life of crime does equate to intellect. Patrick Burris lived by the sword and died by it the final time he pulled his gun on mankind. Ironically his reign of terror was stopped by "men's best friend." I call that providence.

Despite all the citizens arming themselves to the hilt, the army of criminal investigators, Patrick Tracy Burris, (a men drawling over his national fame), was stopped by a dog. We should reward this hairy hero with a few drawling moments of his own - steak dinners are in order for this legendary crime stopper!

We won't need to arm our crime stopping pets, just give them a "treat" for their heroic captures.

No other holiday presents such a quagmire for cheating spouses like Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is the traditional day which lovers normally express affection, gifts, thoughts and endless romance. It’s a special day for married couples and significant others. But it ensnares the cheater.

Valentine’s Day is a very enlightening day. A cheating spouse walks a balance beam trying to keep poised while avoiding a fall to one side or the other. Any favoritism factors into this awkward quagmire. Vested spectators notice any hesitancy, limitation or faltering. Surely, a perfect performance is critical. Affection and romance are undoubtedly on display. Any indication of snake oil is consequential.

Unlike the rest of the year the days surrounding Valentine’s Day ensnare a cheating spouse like no other timeframe. Any blunder, oversight or slip up is costly. There are five vital signs detect a cheating heart. They are:

1. Initiating secret communications. The assortment includes covert messages, e-mails, text messages, e-cards, hang-ups, phone calls from closets or driveways, because cheaters must communicate by trickery.

2. Adultery statistics are hard to come by, especially honest and controlled statistics. According to the electronic article “Adultery: Statistics on Cheating Spouses,” published by Eagle’s Nest Publications, “60-70 percent of adultery victims are women” while “30-40 percent of adultery victims are men.” Adultery is usually one of the top reasons cited for divorce and with modern technology and readily available sex partners, it doesn’t seem like this trend will slow any time soon.

The definition of adultery is consensual sexual intercourse with a partner that is not your husband or wife. According to the 2003 United Nations World Fertility Reports, 89% of all women and men get married by the age of 49. However, not all marriages follow the monogamy rule. Anthropological studies have reported that 80-85% of societies allowed polygamous marriage. It is a well-known fact that the early Mormons practiced Polygamy. However, most men in societies are not able to afford multiple wives so the average societal marriage involves one man and one woman.

Adultery stories have been a part of history since the beginning of time. Adultery is clearly forbidden in the seventh commandment of the Ten Commandments and is punishable by death. Jesus preached it was a sin. However, in the past, only a married woman engaging in sex with another man counted as adultery in which case both the woman and the man were considered guilty. Nevertheless, this attitude has spread to married men who are now looked down upon and may be punished by laws if they cheat on their wives.

In some cultures, the punishment for adultery results in the death penalty, some penalties being as brutal has stoning the guilty party to death. In various countries adultery is illegal and in the United States adultery laws vary from state to state.

When a person files for divorce on the grounds of adultery, they must provide as much proof as possible to prove the validity of the affair. If the divorce is contested, then it is up to the accusing party to provide dates, times and any other admissible evidence.

Adultery can affect the negotiation of the divorce process by setting off hurt, anger and resentment. Infidelity most affects divorce in the negotiation process. Rarely does infidelity fail to set off negative and painful emotions from the cheated on party.

Unfortunately, adultery seems to be a part of our society. Whether we decide to partake in it or work on trying to keep it out of our lives, it is a personal decision we choose and we must live with the consequences.

Cheating Husbands and Wives Caught in Web

Technology makes infidelity easier, but it also makes getting caught practically inevitable. Joanna Stern 12/18/2007

Rena Holloway (who preferred not to use her real name) was suspicious. The 36-year-old mother of four from Chicago had become uncomfortable with her husband's rampant cell phone use and that his voicemail password had been changed from the usual family code. His call history was blank—a sign he'd erased it. There were also paw prints on the family desktop Web browser: He had been logging into a separate e-mail account.

One morning, while her husband was in the shower, she flipped open his cell phone and there it was: an illicit text message. Holloway, who had been through this before, didn't stop there. She wrote down the phone number and used Intelius' Web service to look up her husband's cell phone records. Lo and behold, the number of the text sender appeared numerous times on her husband's outgoing call list. Today, Holloway and her husband are separated.

As you might imagine, Holloway isn't alone. "As technology gets more and more sophisticated, cheaters are going to have a greater risk of getting caught, especially because so many of them are meeting online and communicating there," said infidelity expert Ruth Houston, author of Is He Cheating On You? "The evidence is all in the cyber realm," she said.

Net Helps Cheating Husbands and Wives

According to relationship experts like Houston, cheating is on the rise because technology makes finding a willing partner easier. The unfaithful don't have to scour bars or cultivate relationships; they can simply visit a site like The Ashley Madison Agency, a site dedicated to helping married people find other partners. The site, whose tagline is "When monogamy becomes monotony," boasts almost a million members in the U.S. alone. Stats may convey the popularity of the site among cheaters, but creating a profile of our own was equally telling. Within 20 minutes of setting up a profile, in which we said we were a 30-year-old "attached female seeking males," we received seven messages from men who were married or "attached."

One member, whom we'll call Rick, traded messages with us on the site. He told us how he keeps his extramarital relations a secret from his wife and asked that we not use his real name. "I log into Ashley Madison a few times a day to see what else is out there," Rick said. "I always make sure to erase the Web-browser history on the family computer if that's the one I'm on."

Rick has met face to face with women from the site. "I typically am traveling for work, so I use my laptop on the road to communicate," he said.

Divorce lawyers and marriage counselors agree that Internet-abetted infidelity—romance originating in chat rooms and fueled by e-mail—is now one of the leading contributors of marital breakdowns. A 2005 study conducted by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers indicated that 63 percent of divorce cases involve some form of online infidelity. (This infidelity can refer to relationships that began on the Internet or were spurred on by electronic communication.)

"I couldn't count the number of cases when there has been e-mail evidence of adulterous relationships," said Gaetano Ferro, a matrimonial attorney and president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. "It often happens that a prospective client comes in [saying that their] spouse has a boyfriend or girlfriend, and they drop a stack of e-mails on my desk."

Following the E-Tracks

It's no coincidence that catching a cheating wife or cheating husband has also become easier because much of the communication occurs via mobile technology.

"A basic knowledge of cell phones and computers gave me access to hard evidence," said Holloway. "I think the Internet and cell phones make it amazingly easy to have affairs and be caught doing so."

Private investigators once relied on long-lens cameras and receipt records, but technology has changed their trade. "The personal computer and mobile phone have revolutionized our business," said Bill Mitchell, the director and chief investigator of Mitchell Reports Investigation, who has been a PI since the Internet's infancy. "There is a clear advantage in technology for the investigator. Now we can do everything from install a camera that can run by itself or put a GPS device in an automobile and watch it from our laptop."

Mitchell also mentioned that his company uses software to track keystrokes and image hard drives, adding that the technology has saved his clients thousands of dollars in man-hours.
It's a business that's growing. Adam Camras is cofounder of PInow.com, a site that links people with private investigators in their geographic location. He's seen a major increase in the site's infidelity-investigation business. "We receive anywhere from 10 to 25 inquiries for online infidelity cases on a weekly basis," said Camras, adding that local investigators usually receive even more.

These inquiries come not only from evidence of time spent in virtual communities, such as Second Life, but from other social sites such as MySpace, dating sites, and sites that cater to cheating husbands and wives. "Requests from people wanting tangible information about their spouse's other 'online spouse' have grown 200 percent over the past two years," Camras said.

Although nothing beats having a tech-savvy private investigator at your disposal, John Lucich, a computer forensic expert, has focused on bringing detectives' technology skills to the average person. He argues that costly bills and the idea of involving an outsider in one's dissolving marriage don't make hiring a private investigator the most attractive solution. Lucich's book, Cyber Lies, teaches suspecting spouses how to examine a partner's computer or cell phone to find out if he or she is cheating. "Unfortunately, I can lead people in the right direction to uncover their suspicions," he said.

More Inclined to Cheat?

Although cell phones and instant messaging can be used to keep relationships strong, these tools can also be weapons that tear marriages and families apart. "Mobile technology has made breakthroughs in human relationships and brought us closer to loved ones," said Dr. Susan Heitler, a clinical psychologist specializing in marital therapy and author of The Power of Two. "But on the flip side, it lets us be inappropriately romantic during affairs. The spouse can even be in the same room as the cheater communicates with the [other] woman or man."

But are people who are already inclined to cheat simply upgrading to higher-tech tools, or are more people cheating because technology has made it easier? Marc H. Rudov, author of The Man's No-Nonsense Guide to Women, told us that technology has nothing to do with it. "Technology is just the enabler of infidelity," he said. "Like a gun is the means for murder, you have to want to kill someone before firing that gun. People do not cheat because the technology is there; they cheat because they are bored or insecure."

Dr. Kimberly Young, the founder of the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery, takes another view. She thinks that today's digital world has created a new breed of cheaters that may not have ever cheated before. "I believe the Internet and mobile devices make affairs much more possible," Young said.

Rudov does agree that technology is partly to blame for the upsurge in infidelity. "We live in a world that is electronically connected but disconnected emotionally," he said. "People are communicating via text messages and voicemails more than they're talking to each other face to face. It provides a layer of artificiality that has changed marriages and relationships. That disconnection makes it easier to bounce from one person to the other."

If you've reached the point of resorting to a private investigator (or other outside source) to "catch" your partner in an affair, you've probably gotten so desperate that you're primarily interested in "capture and punishment" and no longer have much hope for saving the relationship.

However, you need to consider that even if you're still interested in trying to save the relationship, using a private investigator may cause such anger and embarrassment to the person who is "caught" that it leads them to be unwilling to try to work things out—regardless of what you want.

When someone is caught this way, they may feel like a "victim" themselves—which can overwhelm any feelings of guilt they might have had about their behavior. This leaves them with little sympathy for the problems they have caused—and leads them to pull away completely. So if you want to keep all your options open, it's better to avoid a private investigator.

This, of course, still leaves the issue of how to resolve your questions and suspicions—which requires you to become much more effective in your efforts to get your partner to talk honestly about whether they're having an affair. Additional perspective:While most of the feedback I have received through the years about the ramifications of using a private investigator have been negative, I recognize that a lot depends on the particular professional involved. I should point out that (as with counselors, the media, etc.), there are always going to be people who are much more caring and committed than others.
So in all fairness to private investigators, I want to acknowledge Bill Mitchell, a private investigator who contacted me and convinced me that he is one of the "good guys" in this business. I also want to recognize another exceptional private investigator who recently contacted me. His name is Alex M. Salazar and he practices in Orange County, California. It turns out he's on my mailing list and wrote in response to one of my mailings about the importance of honesty in dealing with affairs. He went on to describe the effort he is making to change the secrecy and shame attached to affairs. It turns out that he provides his clients with lots of information and support, going far beyond what might be expected when seeking his services. And he's making a major effort to help people who are trying to deal with a spouse's affair to avoid feeling "crazy" or like there's something wrong with them.

This kind of caring and consideration is precisely what is needed when people are so vulnerable. And it's heartwarming to hear that rather than being opportunistic in taking advantage of them, he actively seeks to build them up and support them in gaining more understanding of the whole situation. He even personally gives them written material that might be helpful, including my own book.

So I want to amend my earlier comments about using a private investigator to say that IF you are fortunate enough to find one like Alex, who is concerned about "the future of the family," then my concerns about seeking this kind of help would be much different.

About Marriages and Divorce:
• 50-70 percent of all American marriages end in divorce.
• Within the last decade, incidents of adultery have risen to this alarming rate of 50-70 percent in America.

About the Adulterers:

Online Affairs – 10 Clues You Must Know to Recognize Them

Online affairs are prevalent today but what can you do when you suspect something’s amiss? Unless curbed in time this destructive secretive behavior either destroys a good relationship or leads to divorce. How do you know if the internet has become the means of deviant thoughts, intensions or communication without your knowledge? Let’s look at those typical indicators I’ve garnered while investigating thousands of confirmed affairs. These indicators will help you be the judge in your own relationship.

1. If your spouse or partner spends excessive time surfacing the internet.

That being stated, who doesn’t use a computer today for hours? I know only a few people but frankly most of them are the elderly. The benefits of being able to pay bills, staying in touch with family, friends, customers, finding street locations, shopping, and a host of other productive endeavors, puts me in front of a PC everyday. We can not live without them anymore and I shutter when a lighting storm rolls into town restricting my computer usage. Look at the younger generation of “computer savvy” kids and their instant messaging habits. (Only wish I had stock in AOL years ago.) My kids would “give up the ghost” if they lost a computer connection. Do yours go without dinner just to post another comment or send another “pic” to a friend? Seriously, just try to draw them away, it’s no simple task. Does your spouse share this magnetism to the computer, if so, why? It might be the start of something you need to explore.

2. Are passwords, instant message “buddy lists”, internet email accounts and emails concealed - even protected from you!

It’s been said by nationally syndicated TV psychiatrist Dr. Phil, “If you have nothing to hide, hide nothing.” So true! Do you find your spouse seeking his or her “own space” at the computer? Are you stonewalled looking for their passwords? Do you need a subpoena to access internet accounts? Does it take “an act of Congress” when you want to admission to their digital world? More typically, does a disagreement ensue? What’s there to conceal? These questions all have obvious answers. The act of hiding information is by its nature deceptive. You are married right? So, what’s the problem? Of course, those of us who have worked security for “Corporate America” understand the need for protection of company secrets. But what legitimate “family secret” are we hiding? Listen, any time a spouse becomes secretive with you, there’s a reason and motive. So what is it? Why? In a marriage gone awry, you unwittingly symbolize the judge or powerful authority establishing “accountability.” Thus a motive! Furthermore, in most states adultery is grounds for divorce. There is, in some “non-liberal” courts, a price to pay or loss involved!

3. If your partner abruptly shuts off the internet and/or computer when you approach.

This is knee jerk reaction, but in reality its simply “panic”! Ever open your teenager bedroom door and experience this reaction? Here’s the rationalization. When all other contingency plans fail, like hearing the creaking stairs, light shining from the bedroom upstairs, and other tricks don’t cue the cheating spouse – just put the “off” button. This irrational act is also called a “hard computer crash” and has the potential of damaging the hard drive but also corrupting operating system. What’s the payoff? Is destroying a PC worth it? Maybe! In all probability “yes”. Avoiding detection of an online affair is sufficient motive and surely a good explanation. We consider it a significant indicator of a deviant behavior. Now, bear in mind your spouse may be viewing pornography and fears your reprisal. Just a word of advice, this may explain the need for panic and often is why. But often pornography precedes internet affairs.

4. If the computer and monitor are always positioned to avoid your scrutiny.

The study of body language is invaluable to those of us who interrogate suspects, especially during the administration of a lie detection examination. So, when you analyze why the computer is positioned this way, does it make sense? Is that room arranged by you that way or him? This behavior reeks of deception and a common mistake made by cheaters. Why is it necessary to block your view? You should ask yourself, “What’s going on here?” One explanation is this strategy renders additional time to clear a screen, turn off the monitor, or change internet page if and when threatened with exposure. Intentionally turning the monitor or laptop away from your regular view is an indicator that you are “not invited to the party”. Over time this tactic confers less risk of detection. In most instances, having lead time is all that’s needed to remain undiscovered.

5. If internet history is cleared every day, including chat sessions, instant messaging or your spouse downloads software that automatically rids this information.

Of course, its possible one uses this technique to maintain a computer’s performance. It’s not the norm. True, computers run faster when less “temporary” files. This is a wise practice. What I am referring to is the repeated habit of purposefully clearing information – and cleared to avoid detection and discovery. While this information is retrievable through the new technology of Computer Forensics, you won’t readily recovery it without paying a professional like me. On the market today is software designed to cover ones “tracks”. Many deviant programmers are making a nice living aiding “cheaters”. The actual purpose of this software is to hide any trace of computer internet usage. Do you find this a little suspicious? I do.

6. Finding computer use after you go to bed, when you fall asleep or in the middle of the night?

Have you been awaken by the absence of your spouse only to see him planted at the PC again? Does the rationale fit the need? Is the project deadline real? What requirements dictate a compelling drive to be alone at the computer? When you witness a behavior pattern, then take the time to know more. While work demands a sense of commitment and loyalty, working late repeatedly after you have fallen asleep is a little odd.

7. Your Spouse exhibits a compulsive need to be online and seems defensive when confronted to stop.

“When are you coming to bed?” “We really need to go, now, what’s taking so long?” “Can’t you do that later?” Have you asked these similar questions? Teenagers often become “obsessed” with instant messaging. If you have kids who use the computer, you know exactly what I mean. They have trouble walking away from the PC. This same desire or compulsion is cause for alarm. Coupled with defensive behavior this reflects a strong need to continue. You need to know why.

8. Your spouse shares personal information, photos or events with strangers online.

Setting up a profile for instant messaging is commonplace these days. Kids transfer digitals all the time. Look at the success of “MySpace.com” and “FaceBook.com. They are the fasting growing channels to network. But they are also problematic too. Buddy lists for example are fertile ground for new friends, especially of the opposite sex. I’ve witnessed spouses who send nude pictures of themselves over the internet to cultivate an affair. They share very personal information that should be reserved to the “marital” home. Maybe it’s time to track this information with software that collects data and computer usage. We recommend investigative spyware. Today, more and more courts are considering text messaging, damaging emails and computer histories as proof that adultery exists. However, it’s advisable to consult an attorney in your state beforehand!

9. Plays online games and frequents “personals” chatrooms.

This is where it starts. Play a few games, win or loss but then we need to chat. Well if chatting is fine, why not include your spouse? You can’t, so why do it? It goes much further today. With deceitful websites springing up to promote infidelity your spouse may be shelling out membership fees with a credit card you never knew existed. My favorite chapter is titled, “Where It All Begins.” Bill covers, in detail, each and every instance of where, and how, cheating spouses and their ‘paramours’ meet. Two of the meeting places, mentioned in the chapter, are the Web and Sports. Both have affected people I know. The husband of one of my friends cheated on her with someone he met in an internet forum. Thanksgiving is no doubt a significant family holiday. Adultery takes the joy out of Thanksgiving when in fact this season brings most families together. When the month of November and December arrive are you excluded from plans or trips your spouse makes?

Suspicion or just thinking about investigating an affair makes women afraid to make a commitment because then they must do something about it. Even though women have interest in the truth they hesitate to know for sure. I call this denial – “The Great Paralyzer”.

1. Promise your mate you will never join an internet “cheaters” service.
2. Put any positive thoughts of a “love triangle” in the company shredder
3. Guard your affection for your spouse or significant other. Don’t give it away carelessly.
4. In 2006 share cards, chocolates, flowers, hotel suites and gifts with just ONE – your spouse.
5. Tell yourself you will get caught – no matter how selective a gene pool you left.
6. Understand that not every parent who cheated on their spouse is a wise or a good example to follow.
7. Convince yourself that car behind you is a private investigator placing a “tail” on you.
8. Look for reasons to keep your marriage alive – try a defibrillator if necessary.
9. Communicate to save your marriage. Be open and honest with your partner about your needs, desires and aspirations.
10. Be affectionate, accountable, understanding and honest this year ( of course with your spouse). Try signing up for a marriage seminar or retreat. Check with a local church for events in your area.
11. Read this aloud “Affairs seem exciting and fulfilling for a moment but destructive to me, my family, friends, employer and future. It’s not worth it and I'm too smart for that troubled way of living!”
12. Extramarital affairs are just too costly even for the wealthy. Do everyone around you a big favor, including your kids, use just one bed – the one at home - with your spouse.
13. Value your health. You can’t risk the future over a fling. Cheaters often spread STD’s.
14. Agree that a little “self-indulgence” will lead to an affair – so listen to your conscience before it leads anywhere.

Debt and Denial – During the Tax Season

As 120 million households prepare their taxes this year, Bill Mitchell, Seven-Day Detective and author of The More You Know – Getting the evidence and support you need to investigate a troubled relationship, asks the $64,000 question. “With the tax season deadline approaching, what election will you use to file your 2005 tax return? Married filing jointly or married with money grubbing cheating Spouse?”

With the tax filing date quickly approaching, you must prepare your taxes again, and on time. This time of year, finances are always a priority for us,, “but did the thought ever occur to you that cheating spouses are spending money without telling you?” asks Mitchell.

“Once a cheat always a cheat” as the old adage goes. “If they will cheat on you, count on it - Uncle Sam is next,” adds Mitchell. “And this means possible IRS problems,” Mitchell warns. The problem for most victims of infidelity is denial. Coping with powerful feelings of trust and mistrust keep many in the dark.

Cheating spouses account for millions of dollars each year in travel, gifts, phone charges, and more as they philander. “Taking an assessment of your income and expenses columns, especially in the ‘miscellaneous category,’ will unearth cheating spouses’ wrongdoings,” offers Mitchell.

Tax season can also serve as time for damage control. Start by investigating credit card and bank statements and phone bills - especially cell accounts. Next, turn your attention toward any disappearing acts or business trips during the past year. Make certain you don’t overlook holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Christmas and your spouse’s birthday. These events are just a few important dates to include as you audit your finances.

Each case depends upon the nature of the income, methods of payment, how and where assets are hidden. For example, does the potential exist for your spouse to hide assets through the assistance of a family member, business partner, or out-of-state relative? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, you might consider using spyware and a device called the Phone Accountant to track call data and trace email transactions. In some cases, computers may need to be forensically analyzed for erased data on the hard drive.

“Another safeguard for anyone suspecting an affair is to check your credit report,” says Mitchell. Obtaining your credit report may provide information and evidence such as hidden credit history, accounts, or debts. This approach can be used to identify transactions your spouse made without you. Look for banking and routing information revealing any trails to hidden assets or financial surprises.

Use this tax season to secure your financial future, avoid debts, and verify the facts. A troubled relationship brings more than pain. It normally brings debt! You shouldn’t be the last one to know if your spouse is cheating on the government and you.

For instances, “Are you finding "unavailable" calls?” adds Bill Mitchell. “Do they correspond a date and time you suspected goings-on?” he says.

Mitchell counsels “Be watchful not to respond in haste. Don't shut off the stream of information. You don't want to make that slip-up and multiple your troubles.”

Affairs, whether lasting one night or several months, damage families even if one or both parties pretends it's not really serious, or that no one is hurt if it's kept secret. At the very least, cheating on his wife, whether she doesn't know (or chooses not to see the signs of an affair going on right under her nose), she misses out on having an open and deeply committed relationship with the man she's chosen for a partner. He misses out on experiencing a marriage of faithfulness and honesty. Their children miss the opportunity to learn what a committed and loving relationship looks like.

In short, adultery ain't good for your marriage and you're probably reading this page because you have a nagging suspicion your spouse has strayed. But how can you know if your husband or wife is cheating on you (or your partner if you are in a supposedly committed relationship without a marriage license)? Furthermore, what can, and should, you do about your suspicions?

Hiring a private detective to spy on your spouse is not an action most suspicious wives or husbands take. If they do hire an investigator, they don't do it lightly.

However, after reading The More You Know, you'll be much better prepared to recognize whether your spouse or partner is most likely cheating on you, what to do to protect yourself and your finances, and whether to hire a detective.

But satisfying relationships are most often free of these characteristics (except, perhaps, the last, in which case a person may feel their natural sloppiness has prevented moving up the corporate ladder and decide to do something about it).

In any case, as you read examples of each of these, you can access the likelihood that cheating is taking place. You might also decide to take steps to change a rocky relationship so that an affair doesn't occurвЂ”for example, by reading and taking to heart suggestions in the articles here in Support4Change for strengthening your marriage to prevent future heartache.

Bill Mitchell's chapter on "Where it All Begins" offers a warning on how to avoid getting into a situation where the potential for an affair can grow into full-fledged adultery. Preventing adultery takes effort. For example, I have a neighbor who has a policy that he doesn't go to lunch alone with a women other than his wife. If there is business to discuss, he will do that in his office or he'll take someone else along to a lunch meeting. As a lawyer, he's seen too many cases of affairs that began very innocently, but concluded with ruined lives.

Of course, there are many places where lovers can rendezvous besides lunch. There are weekends and evenings (a time when investigators are most often hired to do surveillance), days when a spouse and co-worker are both not scheduled to work, before and after work, business trips, etc.

So let's assume you are fairly sure your spouse has been cheating on you, but you want to get proof. It would be nice if you could simply say, "Honey, Betty saw you with a blonde at that roadside cafe last Tuesday when you said you were working late at the office. Explain yourself." And then, in the better of all possible worlds (the best being a world in which no one cheated on anyone), your spouse would say, "I was just meeting with her to plan a very special event for your birthday." And you would believe him because he was telling the truth.

In another scenario he might say, "I've been having an affair for several months and intended to tell you but it slipped my mind. If it bothers you I won't do it again." Then you both kiss and that's the end of that. Yeah, sure. If he had an affair, he has a lot of damage to undo and you have a lot of exploring to see where you want to go from there.

However, given the fact that affairs occur in a climate of secrecy, if he is having an affair, the chances are that not only will he deny it, he'll be more cautious when he next meets with your competition. Further, once warned you're on to him, it's possible he may try to hide financial transactions, so that in a divorce settlement you won't get the money you deserve. A person who cheats by having sex with someone other than his wife is not beyond cheating with his finances.

Consider a case I heard in a lecture on divorce and negotiation in graduate school. The instructor was a woman lawyer who had been a therapist. Her story goes something like this. When her husband, we'll call him Joe, began divorce proceedings, he claimed the large amount of money in their bank account was a loan from his brother, Steve, his partner in business. Since he had to pay it back, he claimed it wasn't an asset.

To prove it was a loan, next to each deposit in the account book he had stamped the notation, "Loan to Joe from Steve." The same stamp appeared on each check Steve had written. Unfortunately for Joe, his wife went through the drawers of his desk and found a receipt for the stamp used in both instances dated after he filed for divorce. Without that evidence, he could have gotten away with claiming he had much less than he did, and she would have gotten much less in the settlement. Deciding women needed help from jerks like that, she went to law school.

Anyway, back to my review of The More You Know. If you have doubts about your spouse's fidelity and want answers quickly, the book will give you good, practical advice on what you should do, which includes various ways to go beyond suspicions to getting proof.

Before I read this book, I hadn't recommended clients hire a adultery. However, I now see the advantage of hiring someone like Bill Mitchell.

If you do hire a professional investigator, you may not find evidence of your spouse's cheating in a week, which is the amount of time Bill is often able to gather the necessary proof.

Nevertheless, even if you don't choose to hire a professional, a person trained in surveillance can at least guide you in what you can do on your own. To help you find an investigator, the book includes a list of state agencies that license private investigators, for you wouldn't want to use one who wasn't licensed.

Setting out on the path of checking on a wayward spouse is painful. But it's not any less painful than not knowing the truth, for lies we tell and lies we believe too often destroy relationships beyond the point of repair. The truth may seem harsh if it is not what we want to know, but it's also liberating.

Over the past four decades we have proven infidelity stems from a workplace relationship. There's no more vulnerable time of the year then Christmas to document a cheating spouse. After rescuing and investigating more than 2000 cases of infidelity I know what to prescribe. Follow this prescription and find healing for your condition.

Here are seven steps to take if you suspect your spouse of cheating on you:

1. Stop asking direct questions. Yes that's right. If you hope that your spouse will tell the truth I can assure you they won't. It's just that simple, no one confuses.

2. Believe the best yet think clearly. Avoid letting your emotions interfere with securing facts. Keep your wits about you. Do your best to handle your life with a sense of purpose and stay positive.

3. Trust, but verify! That means until you know the truth first hand verify any statements, events, excuses or suspicions. Of course your behavior must not reflect your concerns. This just complicates finding answers.

4. Find out the identity of the mistress or correspondent. Your spouse is probably cheating with a coworker. Normally infidelity takes place with someone at work. Eighty percent (80%) of the time we find cheating spouses engaged in a secret relationship with fellow workers.

5. Plan for the future. Don't be left standing out in the cold. Know your financial condition and have a backup plan. Evaluate your finances and stop any threat to your credit or debt exposure.

6. Think like an investigator. Look for clues. Some are obvious while others require real effort. It will take you time to survey places you will find information. Try the computer and cell phones first. Then check bills, receipts and statements next.

7. Look for patterns of deceptive or secret behavior. You don't need to be an expert at this just watch your spouse. He or she might give you obvious clues.

DonвЂ™t fret when board meetings run into the wee hours of the night - unless they veer off course.

Recently, former CEO of Boeing Company, Harry Stonecipher, turned his private desires into a вЂњCorporate AffairвЂќ when he included another female executive in his meeting agendas. His sudden ouster from Boeing Company was the last thing he dreamed would appear in the corporate record. No company welcomes such bad publicity - especially when it topples their chief officer.

Stockholders were the most shocked by the announcement. This exercise in вЂњpoor judgmentвЂќ left many wondering what it would cost them. BoeingвЂ™s decisive corporate rendering will resound for years to come and a paradigm to the world.

This high profile вЂњCorporate AffairвЂќ that Boeing grounded will lead the way for others to rethink their own policies. I would guess corporate meetings across the country will restructure the way this issue is addressed. Next monthвЂ™s agenda might include provisions for вЂњcorporate affairs.вЂќ If companies have not readied a workplace infidelity contingency plan, itвЂ™s time is now.

In fact, if Human Resources personnel are not scrambling to put a stern policy in place they are remiss. Did Boeing Company take the вЂњbull by the hornsвЂќ?

Of course they did. One of the most common tactics employed by intelligence agencies is to compromise key targets with вЂњgood ole fashion sexвЂќ. Once a victim indulges they are trapped. The capacity for trustworthiness totally diminishes, they become compromised. The fallout often includes; job losses, stolen trade secrets, blackmail, information leaks, and loss of business. BoeingвЂ™s firm action may have avoided these crises. They made the right choice. Any company faced with the decision to retain a compromised leader would be foolish not to react like Boeing.

Despite the fact that many courtrooms render no punishment on matters of adultery, вЂњCorporate AmericaвЂќ should execute swift and prevailing judgment.

So what lesson is learned from Mr. Harry StonecipherвЂ™s demise?

ItвЂ™s just plain vanilla. Adultery does not belong in the workplace and should not be tolerated. Companies must establish a comprehensive policy barring adultery with fellow employees - exempting none. In your next board meeting make sure a newly instituted вЂњanti-adulteryвЂќ policy receives utmost attention вЂ“ or else! All this bad press is an unwelcome bedfellow.

Married and ECheating - A dreadful alliance!

“ECheating” - a phrase I’ve coined. “ECheating” enchants new scalawags to an internet isle. Rather than sail, today’s Argonauts surf to this island. In great numbers surfers are defying danger and destruction for a chance encounter - a rendezvous.

Here’s one such tale:

Martin leaves mornings for work before rush hour. He hates the wasted time or so he’s been coached to tell Michelle, his unwitting wife. She cleans up breakfast dishes before heading off to work an hour later. Michelle loves Martin and thinks of him throughout the day. She faithfully trusts him. Martin is the first at work. He logs onto the internet using his personal laptop to avoid detection and violation of company policy. He follows these tips from his team of “eCheating” consultants.

Martin receives many hits just a few days after setting up his “eCheating“membership profile. He only has seconds to wait. With his coffee still steaming, seventeen women want to hear from him. Several wanted dialogue, others wanted more! Nervously, Martin rolled his wedding band around his finger tempted to read them all. Eventually he’s overcome with excitement and his monotony is gone! (That’s the Siren’s seductive song.) "Your name is Cindy; you live in Seattle and need to spice up your marriage. This is your first time too? You enjoy things that might make some blush Oh no, what am I doing?” Martin says under his breath.

With a quick click of the mouse Martin’s off the net - escaping what seemed like a crime he’s committed. His heart beat races. Martin is both scared and energized. For now signing off is the right thing. “That’s it, no more,” Martin says to himself. “Well at least they helped me cover my tracks. Michelle will never know I signed up.” Almost coincidentally, Martin’s boss passes the cubicle with a routine welcome. “Oh not bad Paul, thanks for asking¦ Man that was close! I can’t believe what I’m doing. I’m married; what am I crazy; I’ve got so much to lose. What would the kids do if they found out?” Martin asks himself.

Unfortunately, Martin yields to his desires and a rendezvous devised. His next business trip provides the perfect alibi. He will meet his chosen “eCheater” at a nearby convention hotel. Michelle remains clueless. But wait, “eCheating” serves a compelling purpose, true? Just listen to one slogan “When Monogamy becomes Monotony.” This catchphrase conjures up a sense of justification or reason. It includes not just a sex theme, but a sense of fellowship. Does marriage end when it‘s unexciting? Is in fact adultery the answer?

These new dreadful alliances would lead you to believe it is! I am deeply troubled these “eCheating” businesses are flourishing! Isn’t it time we put an end to them? How? What can YOU do about them?
· Be proactive.
· Get informed.
· Search adultery keywords for banner ads.
· Learn these “ECheating” sites by name.
· Search computer history for visits to them.
· Install spy ware on home PC - yours of course.
· Keep an eye on credit cards statements.
· Monitor computer usage.
· Paying attention to your relationship.
· Fight for your marriage and spouse - seek help.
· Don’t use God or the Bible as a weapon in confrontations.
· Therapy sessions don’t work if you are forcing them.
· Don’t require your spouse to go to therapy - it will deliberately fail after a few sessions and be used against you.
· Safeguard your homes and kids from the internet.
· Make time to watch the eHighway carefully for those hazardous detours.
· Communicate better; be more affectionate, appreciative, available, accepting and affirming. · Be positive, attractive and irresistible.
· Consider a make over if necessary.
